Information for the weeks ahead

We have got a busy few weeks ahead. Please check the dates below and ask any questions if you need some clarification.

We have been doing some exciting things in Year 1 over the past couple of weeks.

In science, we planted our own cress, and we are observing it grow. We are starting to see the roots, stem and leaves grow and we have been recording this in our plant diaries. We have also been designing a new creature which fits into 1 of the 5 animal groups. In our next lesson, we will be deciding if our creature is a herbivore, carnivore or omnivore and creating a menu to suit their diet.

In literacy, we have been learning and writing about the story 'Bob, the bubble who wanted to be useful'. We have come up with some great descriptive sentences, using a range of adjectives to describe characters in the story. Over the rest of the half-term, we will be innovating this story and writing our own version of the opening paragraph.

In DT, we have designed our moving vehicles and we will be making them in our next DT session. We can't wait to show you our end project.

We have had great fun in our computing lessons with Miss Waugh this half-term! We have been learning about collecting data and presenting our findings in pictograms. On Monday, we transferred this knowledge onto the iPads and used a graph making tool to represent our findings to the enquiry: 'How many pencils are blue?'

Transition Day
On Thursday this week, your child will be spending the day in the Year 2 classroom with their new teachers. They will have Miss Rayns in the morning and Miss Ahmed in the afternoon. All children should be taken to their new classroom when they arrive in the morning. We have it very easy because the Year 2 classroom is next door to Year 1 meaning that you will drop them off at the same place.

Sports Week
We will be taking part in a selection of sport activities next week and will finish the week with our Sports Day on Friday. Children can wear their PE kits to school all week.

School performance
Our school performance this year is 'The Jungle Book'. Children have been working very hard to learn their songs, please continue to practise these at home if you are able.
Please ensure costumes are in school by Friday 7th July. Year 1 are snakes so should wear green or yellow tops and trousers.
