Final weeks in Year 1

We've had a busy few weeks in Year One! Read below to see some of the things we have been up to and check for information on our final week of the year.

We are starting to wrap up our 'Transport Over Time' unit, and we now know lots about how and why transport has changed. We spent some time in the Year 2 classroom making moving vehicles using wheels and axles. In our final lesson of the unit, we will look at the first aeroplane which was invented by the Wright Brothers.

In Maths last week we had our final whole school massive maths session! We explored duration of time and recorded how long it took us to do certain activities such as running, hopping, and crawling. Check out photos from Key Stage 1 Massive Maths here.

In science this half-term we have been consolidating the knowledge we acquired over the course of the year. We planted some cress seeds and observed them growing, and we were able to identify the roots, stem and leaves. We also created our very own creature and designed a menu to suit its diet, and finally, we explored materials in our classroom to answer the enquiry question 'Are all plastics transparent?'.

Computing has been a big hit this year and this half-term we have mastered gathering data to present on a pictogram graph.

Sports Week

A big THANK YOU to Miss Robinson for organsing a fantastic sports week for us all. Our top three activities were definitely rugby, cricket and wheelchair basketball! Click here to see some great photos of our time during sports week.

Transition Day

All children enjoyed spending the day with their new teachers on 29th June. Miss Rayns and Miss Ahmed are very excited to get to know the children properly in September! Next year, the children will be named 'Wonder Class' after Stevie Wonder. They have already started creating amazing musical themed art work for their classroom displays.

Performances

Rehearsals for our school performance are well under way, and the children look amazing! We can't wait to welcome you into school to watch our whole school performance this week (Tuesday AM, Wednesday afternoon, and Wednesday evening).

Information about the final week

  • End of year reports will be sent home this week.
  • Our school performance dates are: Tuesday morning, Wednesday afternoon, and Wednesday evening. Please do bring your children back to school for the evening performance. They have put lots of effort into rehearsals, their head pieces and their costumes and I know they will feel very proud showing you.
  • On Thursday 20th July please send your child into school with a carrier bag. This is so I can send home their school books and any other work they may have in school. We have come a very long way in Year 1 this year, and the children will love to show you what they have accomplished.
