Our new big idea-Once upon a time

This half-term we are so excited about introducing the children to the world of fairy tales and classic stories. Over the half term, we will be looking at a range of books and eventually, this will lead us to creating our very own stories. We will be focussing really closely on the story 'The Elves and the Shoemaker' and even  learning how to retell this all by ourselves.

Here is an overview of the big ideas for this half-term. We will be focussing on a couple each week and our weekly vocabulary will be linked to them.

How you can help at home...

  • Reading fairy tales or classic stories at home would be amazing. This not only widens their vocabulary, meaning they feel more confident to join in session time but also helps them to get an understanding of what they like and dislike . For example, do they have a favourite fairy tale?
  • Visit the local library to widen their knowledge of the different stories available.
  • Make up stories with toys at home. Choose who is going to be their character, where they are going to live and what is going to happen to them. It doesn't have to be complicated at all, you can just mix it up a bit. For example,  Spiderman can go to the woods and take cakes to Grandma!
