We were thrilled to welcome Marli from British Geological Survey, who kindly visited us to support our learning about extreme weather and its impact on people and places.
Together, we explored a range of extreme weather events weโ€™ve studied, including wildfires, heatwaves, landslides, volcanoes, and tornadoes. Marli helped us connect these phenomena to real-life examples, deepening our understanding of how such events affect communities around the world.
We then considered who might be affected by these conditions and how their lives could be impacted. This led into a creative activity where the children designed a location that could withstand extreme weather, thinking carefully about what people would need and how they could stay safe.
To round off the session, the children had the opportunity to ask Marli their own questions, sparking thoughtful discussions and curiosity.
A huge thank you to Marli for taking the time to visit us and share her expertiseโ€”it was an inspiring and informative afternoon!
