Hello and welcome back!
I hope you all had a restful and joyful half-term break with your families. As we dive into the second half of the Autumn term, Iâm excited to share whatâs ahead for Year 3. This half-term is packed with exciting learning opportunities, enrichment activities, and plenty of fun!
To help keep you informed, Iâve put together this blog with key updates on curriculum coverage, PE/swimming days, homework expectations, and ways you can support us in school.

đ Curriculum Highlights
This half-term, weâll be exploring:
- Geography: Extreme Earth â Discovering natural disasters, climate zones, and how our planet changes.
- Science: Rocks â Investigating different types of rocks, fossils, and soil.
- Class Text: The Wild Robot by Peter Brownâ A brilliant story weâll be reading together. Children are welcome to bring their own copy to follow along!

Our books for the new year will be: The Great Cave & The Great Flood by Terry Deary

Youâll find our Geography and Science Knowledge Organisers attached below, which outline the key learning for each subject. Weâve also included the spelling units weâll be covering, including the statutory Orange Words for Years 3 and 4.
đ Homework Expectations
Hereâs a quick reminder of our weekly homework routines:
- Reading: Please ensure your child reads at least 3 times a week at home. Donât forget to sign their home-school reading record. Youâre also warmly invited to join us in the Reading Lair to read together!
- DoodleMaths & DoodleSpell: Children should aim to stay in the Green Zone by completing around 40 minutes of practice per week. Please focus on the âassignmentsâ as this is what we are working on in class.
- Bronze Reading Challenge: Encourage your child to work towards their Bronze Challenge, found at the back of their reading record.
- Class Blog: Keep an eye on our blog for regular updates and snapshots of our learning journey!
đ PE & Swimming Days
- Swimming: Every Thursday afternoon during the Autumn term. Children will walk to Keyworth Pool with Mrs Lees and other adults. Please see a previous blog from September about swimming.
- PE: Every Monday afternoon with Mrs Wales. Please ensure kits are clearly labelled and brought in each week.
đ Spellings
This half-termâs spelling units and statutory Orange Words are listed below. These will be practised in class and through DoodleSpell. Please practice these on doodle spell âassignmentsâ.
