A Wonderful End to Autumn Term!
What a busy and exciting half-term it has been! From library visits and virtual author sessions to our fantastic Christmas performances and the upcoming pantomime trip, the children have truly embraced every opportunity.

📚Our Learning Highlights:
AREP
Within Our Year 3, AREP lessons we have helped the pupils to:
- Recognise their individuality and personal qualities
- Understand concepts of identity
- Learn why we have different skin colours
- Explore what it means to be anti‑racist
- Develop strategies to challenge racism
- Identify real-world examples of racism and how to respond to them
Here is just some of our work and the books we have used:

📐 Maths
This term, we’ve been diving into multiplication and division, focusing on learning our 3, 4, and 8 times tables. We’ve also consolidated our understanding of addition and subtraction methods, building strong foundations for future learning. We also took part in Christmas Massive Maths and worked on our problem-solving skills in a fun and immersive way!

✏️ Literacy
In English, the children have enjoyed writing their own imaginative stories inspired by the text How to Trap a Grass Goblin. They’ve created equally inquisitive goblin characters while applying grammar techniques taught in class what a creative bunch!

🌍 Geography
Our topic this term has been Earthquakes and Volcanoes. We’ve explored different types of volcanoes, the Ring of Fire, and the parts of a volcano. The children have also considered why people choose to live near volcanoes and how they adapt to life in these areas.

🪨 Science
In Science, we’ve been learning all about Rocks. We’ve investigated different rock types and their properties, as well as real-life examples. A highlight was the special visit from the British Geological Survey team in Keyworth—thank you for making this topic come alive! (Check out our previous blogs for more details.)
🎵 Music
With Mrs Lees, the children have been working on the unit I’ve Been to Harlem—a traditional pentatonic song about travelling the world. They’ve explored rhythms through cup games, sung in rounds, and even composed their own ostinato accompaniments. This creative unit has been full of fun and musical discovery!
🧵 Design & Technology
Tomorrow, we’ll be putting our sewing skills to the test by designing and making a fabric bag for an archaeologist. The children will be thinking carefully about how to make their bags both practical and useful.
Thank You and Happy Holidays!
We’d like to say a huge thank you to all our Year 3 parents for your continued support this term it makes such a difference. I hope you have a wonderful, restful holiday and look forward to seeing you in the New Year for more exciting learning adventures!
