This week, Year 3 took part in Children’s Mental Health Week, which began on Monday 2nd February. This year’s theme was Belonging, inspired by Place2Be. Throughout the week, the children explored what it means to feel part of a group whether in class, at home, or in the wider community and how we can help others feel included and valued.

What did we do in school?

🌱 An Assembly

The children joined a special assembly focused on belonging, kindness, and the small actions that help everyone feel part of something bigger.

✏️ Class Activities

In class, we discussed:

– what it means to belong

– how we can help others feel like they belong

– how belonging feels in different scenarios

The children then drew pictures of themselves and reflected on the groups, places, and β€œsafe spaces” where they feel a sense of belonging.

πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ Mindfulness & Relaxation Day – Thursday 5th February

On Thursday, all year groups enjoyed a full day of mindfulness and relaxation.

This was led by Gongs by Julia, who guided the children through calming, sensory experiences designed to support emotional regulation and wellbeing. It was a wonderfully peaceful experience.

πŸ“š VIPERS Reading Sessions – Next Week

In next week’s VIPERS reading sessions, Year 3 will explore poems linked to sadness and anger. These lessons aim to help children:

– recognise what these emotions can feel like

– notice the signs that show we might be experiencing them

– develop language to talk about feelings

– explore healthy strategies for managing big emotions
