The Year 3 children had a truly unforgettable adventure on their residential trip to Beaumanor Hall this week. From the moment we arrived, the hall’s beautiful grounds and rich history set the scene for two days packed with outdoor learning, teamwork, and personal growth.
A Morning of Exploration
We began our visit by meeting our instructor, who led us on a guided tour of the grounds. The children impressed us with their curiosity as they identified different trees, learnt fascinating facts about the building, and even discovered the animals carved into and around the historic architecture.
Next came our first big challenge: orienteering! In small groups, the children worked together to navigate the grounds using maps and clues. Each clue was linked to an interesting fact, encouraging them to combine problem‑solving with their new map‑reading skills. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they became familiar with their surroundings. They listened to one another and used their map skills brilliantly!
Afternoon Teamwork and Fun
After lunch, we moved on to an afternoon full of team‑building games. The children used drama to create imaginative scenarios and then took on the “drainpipe challenge,” working together to transport both a ball and water using only connected pieces of pipe. This activity brought lots of laughter—and a bit of splashing!—but also fantastic collaboration. We learnt to problem solve but most importantly listen to one another.
A Grand Dinner and Night-Time Adventures
Dinner was a highlight in itself. The children enjoyed pizza and chips in the grand dining hall, complete with stunning paintings and colourful stained‑glass windows. Their faces were full of awe as they looked around, it felt like dining somewhere truly special.
As evening fell, we took part in Nightline, one of the children’s favourite activities. Wearing blindfolds and working in pairs, they carefully navigated a woodland obstacle trail while holding onto a guiding rope. Their partners gave instructions, encouragement, and lots of giggles along the way. The children were brave and resilient, learning how to trust their partners and move confidently in the dark.
To end the evening, we gathered for hot chocolate and shared our favourite parts of the day. Then it was time to settle down for the night, we promise it wasn’t too late!
Day Two: Survival Skills and Outdoor Challenges
After a hearty cooked breakfast, the children geared up for their survival skills session. They learnt what makes a good fire, practised fire‑building safely, and then worked together to create dens using sticks, tree stumps, and tarpaulin. Once completed, their shelters were tested against wind and rain much to the children’s delight!
With the final activities complete, we enjoyed lunch together before a last play in the park, a browse through the gift shop, and finally our journey home.
A Group to Be Proud Of
Throughout the trip, the children were an asset to Keyworth polite, enthusiastic, determined, supportive of one another, and eager to take on new challenges. It was lovely to see them shine in a different environment, showing independence and celebrating their transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2.
We are certain this experience will stay with them for a long time. Many didn’t want to leave! Well done, Year 3. You made us incredibly proud
