We hope everyone has had a lovely Easter break. We’re excited to welcome the children back for a brand‑new half-term filled with fantastic learning opportunities. You can find the curriculum information and Knowledge Organiser attached at the bottom of this blog.

 

📚 What Will We Be Learning About?

This half-term, we are beginning two exciting new units in Geography and Science.

 

🌍 Geography – Coasts

Children will learn:

  • What is a coast?
  • What geographical features can I see beside the coast?
  • Where is our nearest seaside and what is it like there?
  • How do UK coasts compare to others in Europe?
  • How can we look after our coasts?

🌱 Science – Living l=things and their habitats

Children will learn:

  • What is the difference between living, dead and never alive?
  • What is a habitat?
  • What can we find in a microhabitat?
  • Which habitats do plants and animals live in around the world?
  • Why do living things need each other?
  • How are animals and plants suited to their habitat?
  • What is a food chain?

🏡 Homework Expectations

Thank you for your continued support with home learning. Here is a reminder of the expectations for Year 2:

📘 Reading

  • Children should read at least 3 times a week at home.
  • Please sign the home–school reading record each week.
  • You are warmly invited to attend Reading Lair to read together with your child.

🔢 DoodleMaths & DoodleSpell

  • Children should aim to stay in their Green Zone, which equals around 40 minutes of practice per week.
  • We are starting our new spelling units in school this half term and these will be added onto doodles each week.

⭐ Gold Reading Challenge

  • Please encourage your child to work toward their Silver and Gold Reading Challenges, located at the back of their home–school book.

📝 Class Blog

  • Don’t forget to check the class blog regularly to keep up with Year 2 news, photos and learning updates!

 

🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ P.E. Information

Year 2 will have P.E. sessions every Wednesday afternoon and Friday afternoon.

P.E. Kit:

  • Red top
  • Black shorts or joggers
  • Trainers
  • Jewellery must be removed
  • Longer hair should be tied up

As some sessions will take place outdoors, please provide extra layers on colder days.
All clothing should be clearly named to avoid mix-ups.
