Welcome back to the final term of Year 2!

This half term our topic is Seaside Holidays Past and Present, as part of this topic, we will be looking at the following questions:

  • What do we do at the seaside?
  • What can photographs tell us about holidays in the past?
  • How have seaside holidays changed?
  • Who was Grace Darling and why was she significant?
  • How do the RNLI keep us safe at the seaside?

Our science unit this half term is all about Living things and their habitats. We will be learning:

  • Which habitats do plants and animals live in around the world?
  • Why do living things need each other?
  • How are plants and animals suited to their habitats?
  • What is a food chain?
  • Where does our food come from?

Our class text this half term will be James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl.

The rest of our learning will be as follows:

PE – striking and fielding 

RE – Jewish stories – inside a synagogue  

JIGSAW – Changing Me 

Computing – iDoMail 

Music – Sing up – Tanczymy Labada 

DT – Mechanisms – wheels and axels  

English – Come and buy a talking papaya  

Maths – Time, Statistics, Geometry, Position and Direction 

Please see previous blog post about out JIGSAW lessons this half term as there are some elements of  ‘sex education’ to this unit.

A reminder that our PE days remain Wednesday and Friday and your child needs to bring a complete kit to change into.

Homework expectations remain the same:

  • Stay in the Green Zone on Doodle Maths and Doodle Spell.
  • Read at home (or come to Reading Lair) at least 3 times a week.

School performance

This year our school is putting on a show of Treasure Island! We will be working on songs in school but these are also on the sports and enrichment blog if you would like to practice at home.

Children in Y2 are ‘villagers’ and the costume consists of :

Boys: white shirts, knee length trousers, socks and shoes

Girls: white blouses, full length skirts.
