Year 4 Blog: Our Viking Adventure!
Last term, Year 4 had an amazing time learning all about the Vikings! We discovered who they were, where they came from, and what life was like over a thousand years ago. From fierce warriors to skilled traders, the Vikings were truly fascinating.
One of our favourite parts of the topic was our Design and Technology (DT) project. We became designers and makers, creating our very own Viking coin bags! These were inspired by the small drawstring bags that Vikings might have used to carry their money and treasures.
First, we learned an important sewing skill called the back stitch. This stitch is strong and neat, making it perfect for holding fabric together. It was a bit tricky at first, but with practice and patience, we all improved and became more confident.
After that, we carefully cut our fabric and began sewing the sides of our bags. Once sewn, we added a drawstring so that the bag could be pulled tight to keep our coins safe—just like a real Viking would have done!
We were very proud of our finished coin bags. Not only did they look fantastic, but they were also strong and useful. It was exciting to learn a new skill and create something with our own hands.
Well done, Year 4, for your fantastic effort and creativity during our Viking topic—we can’t wait for our next adventure!
