Year 4 enjoyed taking part in another exciting White Rose Maths Task Master Challenge today. Their mission was to build the tallest free-standing tower using only paper and tape.
Working in groups, the children had to plan, design and test their ideas carefully. The challenge encouraged them to use their problem-solving and mathematical thinking skills while exploring how different shapes and structures can affect height and stability.
Throughout the activity, the children worked collaboratively, sharing ideas, listening to each other’s suggestions and supporting one another to overcome challenges. They quickly discovered that teamwork was just as important as the design itself!
There was great excitement around the classroom as towers grew taller and taller. Some groups had to rethink and adapt their designs when their structures became unstable, showing fantastic resilience and determination.
We were incredibly impressed with the creativity, communication and teamwork demonstrated by all the children. The challenge provided a wonderful opportunity to develop both mathematical thinking and collaborative working skills in a fun and engaging way.
