πŸ“š English – Innovating The Enormous Turnip

In English, we have been putting our own creative spin on the traditional tale The Enormous Turnip. We have been changing the characters and transforming the enormous turnip into a giant pumpkin! The children have worked together to develop our new version of the story and have had lots of fun acting it out as a class. We have been using actions, expression and our storytelling voices to help bring our new story to life.

πŸ”’ Maths – Greater Than, Less Than and Equal To

In Maths, we have been learning about the symbols greater than >, less than < and equal to =. We have been investigating what these symbols mean and practising using the correct mathematical vocabulary to compare numbers and quantities.

πŸ‚ Poetry Week – Conkers!

It has also been National Poetry Week, so we have been exploring some wonderful poems from The Lost Words by Robert Macfarlane.

Our focus has been conkers, which gave us lots of inspiration for our own poetry. We used our senses to explore real conkers, their leaves and their shells, feeling and looking carefully at their different textures and features. We then collected lots of interesting adjectives and descriptive words to help us describe them in detail.

Working together, we used our ideas to create our very own acrostic poem about conkers. We also completed some observational drawings of conkers to complement our poems, carefully looking at their shapes, patterns and details.

Keep an eye out for some of our wonderful artwork and poetry on display in the entrance reception area – we are very proud of what we have created! πŸ‚πŸŒ°
