The Sea Lions make parachutes...

To kick start our new topic 'mighty metals' we started to learn about forces acting upon a parachute. This afternoon we learnt how to design a parachute using a range of materials including: paper, plastic, tissue paper and tin foil. We tested each of these materials to find out which material was best for a parachute and found that tin foil was! We used our flight, Scientific enquiry and observation skills to help us.

We also learnt that a force is a 'push' or 'pull' action and started learning about the different forces acting upon the parachute such as gravity and air resistance.

The children worked brilliantly this afternoon and were incredibly enthusiastic to find out more!
