We have linked it to science week here at KPNS and after finding out that dinosaurs laid eggs we investgated further and had lots of discussions about the results. 

We talked about the different parts of the egg. The children also noticed how the water boiled and bubbled when it go hot. They saw how the water turned to steam and seemed to disappear. The children described how the egg looked different each time they cooked it and made some very good observations.

5 minutes is a good amount of time to get a dippy egg ready for those toast soldiers. 13 minutes probably is good for a hard boiled picnic egg. They all agreed that cooking it for 2 minutes wouldn't be very nice to eat!
