The Bayeux Tapestry is an embroidered cloth nearly 70 metres long and 50 centimetres tall, which depicts the events leading up to the Norman conquest of England concerning William, Duke of Normandy, and Harold, Earl of Wessex, later King of England, and culminating in the Battle of Hastings.

The children found it interesting that it was not a painting but an embroidery. So we decided to have a go at sewing our initials. It may be some time before we get them finished and not everybody was able to start it this week as Miss Cubitt and I spent most of our time untangling the wool!

However the children enjoyed trying out this new skill and it has certainly taught them how to persevere with a difficult task!
