Maths Support

Every week I will be posting support for a different area of maths for you to focus on at home.

First up, Year 2s!

This week I would like you to start looking at fractions including what equal parts means, recognising half and recognising a quarter.

I highly recommend using the White Rose Home Learning materials for this. Each 'lesson' comes with a video explanation, an activity to download and answers to check.

Here is the link https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/ Start with lesson 1 on making equal parts and work your way through week 1.

To support learning I would also recommend looking at these skills with food e.g. splitting an apple into half and quarters - A very easy, visual way to help children get their heads around fractions!

While the White Rose materials are definitely the best, you could also take a look at these YouTube videos together.

Next up, Year 1s!

This week I would like you to look at weight and mass!

There are three lessons on White Rose Home Learning that are perfect for this. Each lesson comes with a video explanation, an activity to download and answers to check.

Here is the link https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/  Please take a look at lessons 1 - 3

You could also start using vocabulary heavier, lighter with objects around the house. Line up some objects from lightest to heaviest. If you have kitchen scales, you could weigh them to check! Don't worry about reading the scales at this point. Something as simple as bigger number = heavier or how far the needle goes around will suffice.

If you have any questions or need more support with this drop me an email at jellyfish-teachers@keyworth.notts.sch.uk

Also please please please take pictures of anything you get up to and send them to me! I miss you all lots so it would be really lovely to see what you're getting up to.

Take care! :)
