Science week in Y6

This week has been British Science week!
To celebrate British Science week, we have taken part in this year's SciTech competition which involves the children making a flying machine that can fly independently. We have made straw planes and the children chose their own design in their groups.
We talked about the things they could change about their planes to try and make a plane that would be able to fly the furthest. The children came up with lots of ideas from the length of the straw to the size of the circles, or even the shape that the cardboard was. Each group decided on one thing that they would change, made a prediction about which would fly the furthest, and then made their plane.
We had a competition in the hall to see how far each plane flew and the top two teams will compete against groups from other classes. The winners will get to compete against children from other schools!
Next week, we will be putting all the results together from our class and drawing a bar chart to show how far our planes flew.
