Children's Mental Health Week 2023

Children's Mental Health Week in Year 3.

It's children's Mental health Week in School this week and across the UK.

As part of Mental Health Week the focus is on 'Let's connect'.  Let’s Connect is about making meaningful connectionsHuman beings thrive in communities, and this connection is vital for our wellbeing. When we have healthy connections – to family, friends and others – this can support our mental health and our sense of wellbeing. And when our need for rewarding social connections is not met, we can sometimes feel isolated and lonely – which can have a negative impact on our mental health.

In Year 3, we focused on an activity which encourages the children to think about who they are connected to, and how they feel about these people. We started the afternoon by listening to a story called 'The invisible String' by Patrice Karst (see below). We then thought about who we are connected to- family, friends, pets, people who have died and how feel when we are around these people.

The children then drew a picture of themselves and drew their connections or 'invisible strings' and talked about why these people are important to them.
