Year 3 meet Gregorios the Ancient!

Year 3 had a fantastic Greek Day!

Year 3 met the infamous Gregorios the Ancient today!

We heard about his gory previous life as a Spartan and the children were put through a gruelling day preparing them to become part of Spartans or Hoplites!

We started the day by learning about what life was like in Ancient Greece for both women and men as well as children. The girls were appalled by how life was very different for them back in Ancient Greece! We also looked at the weaponry used before taking part in a Spartan march using shields (it sure wasn't easy!).

After this, we took part in various activities such as using ink to practice our name using the Greek alphabet, trying on clothing inspired by the Ancient Greek era including incredibly heavy helmets. We also looked at artefacts such as Greek ceramics and drew these as well as making medicines using natural herbs and spices ( it smelt glorious in the classroom).

After this we had a Q & A session and took part in playing 'five lines' which the children thoroughly enjoyed.

Straight after lunch, we took part in an Ancient Greek Olympics and listened to a gruesome Greek myth based on the cyclops!

The children loved our Greek day and I'm sure they'll remember their Ancient Greek topic fondly! They had a wonderful time and were a real asset to the school. Why not take a look at the pictures below and discuss their day?
