Autumn 2 in Thunberg Class

Read all about what the year 4 have been doing this term.

What a busy term we have had in Thunberg class, full of lots of fun and engaging learning! ~

SCIENCE

In science, the Year 4 students have been learning about sound and its travels . They have explored how humans and animals hear sound, conducted experiments to investigate the impact of distance on sound, and examined materials that can protect ears by muffling sound.

HISTORY

In History, we delved into the Romans' invasion of Britain, or Britannia, as they referred to it. The children  learnt about Julius Caesar, identified those who rebelled against the Romans, and studied the lasting influences they left on Britain, such as aqueducts, Roman numerals, and roads. Additionally, they explored popular Roman sports like chariot riding and gladiator fights, creating informative leaflets about them.

ENGLISH

During the English sessions, we focused on a Warning tale titled "The Canal." The Children used story maps and actions to learn the narrative and discussed the use of speech in text, along with the application of similes. They then used  these writing techniques to craft their own warning stories. Examples of their work are below.

DT

In DT, we have been learning all about  structures. The children  designed a box intended to contain and preserve a biscuit. They created designs and  baked gingerbread to place inside the containers, and assessed the effectiveness of the design in protecting and preserving the biscuits.  See below some of their work.

CHRISTMAS FUN

As a reward for their hard work and successful  gaining  of class marbles, Thunberg's class enjoyed a festive celebration. The mini-Christmas party featured engaging games such as passing the parcel, musical chairs, and musical statues. The students enthusiastically participated, singing along to Christmas songs and winning delightful Christmas treats.

PANTO TRIP

To conclude our remarkable term, Thunberg's class embarked on a trip to Leicester to watch the pantomime. This year's production was "Peter Pan," and the children had a fantastic time shouting "he's behind you" and immersing themselves in the captivating show.

Christmas Massive Maths

As part of Christmas, massive maths year 4 children had the challenge of unlocking the shed for the reindeers, so Santa could deliver presents on time. They had to use their wonderful maths skills to solve 10 clues which gave them a secret code. They had lots of fun working as a team. Here are some photos.

Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas, and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year!
