Owls Go Mining!

We have had a great day exploring the mines at the Caphouse Colliery in Wakefield!

We discovered what the conditions would have been like for miners working down the mine during the 19th century!

We descended into the depths of the mine (about 140 metres down!) in a small cage and then explored the dark tunnels below. We even turned our torches off and experienced true pitch black darkness!

At times, it was a little bit scary and there were lots of jumps along the way but we always had a good laugh about them afterwards!

The museum have now set us the challenge of writing to them our own personal letters at home talking about our favourite parts of the tour! I am really looking forward to reading these and then forwarding them to the museum!
