Information for Summer 1

Our new topic for the next term is Beside the Seaside!

This topic is all about coastlines in the UK and abroad, comparing features of coastlines and steps we can take to protect our oceans, coastlines and marine life!

Below is a brief outline of what we will be covering this half-term in school...

Also attached is this half-term's spelling lists (which will also be on doodle spell), as well as some ideas and activities you can try at home (I know some of you were keen for your children to have a go at some extra home learning, which would be amazing!!)

Finally, during this half-term we will be looking at beaches and holidays abroad - if anyone would like to bring in anything from their holidays to talk about (especially from UK beaches or Spanish beaches) that would be fab. We are also in need of shells in school for our artwork if you have or find any!

Literacy

We will be reading the story 'The Pirates Next Door' and writing our own narratives based on this story! We will also be writing non-chronological reports about beaches!

Maths

We will be starting to look at fractions (identifying halves, thirds and quarters, as well as looking at unit and non-unit fractions). Following this, we will be looking at telling the time - it would be great if you could support your child with this at home too!

VIPERS

We will be practising some of the key skills for reading, such as finding and retrieving information in a text, making inferences and predictions about a text, and understanding the meaning of new words!
