A creative start to Spring 1

Year 1 have been very creative these past couple of weeks.

A quick reminder to check out the information on our school trip. Please make your payment by Monday 29th January.

Art

We have been learning how to paint using watercolours. We now know how to use water to activate the colour and clean our paint brush, so the colours don't get mixed up. We also learnt how to layer the colours to create different tones and practised blending the colours together. Next, we applied our new skills to create a watercolour sunset. We blended the colours together to make the sunset more realistic. See below for some photos of our amazing work!

Literacy

In Literacy, we have been learning the text Little Charlie. We are now experts at retelling the story, and can recite the story with expression, actions and interesting voices for the dialogue!
We have been learning how writers can portray speech in their stories. We have explored creating and writing dialogue between two characters and attempted to up level our vocabulary to make our writing more interesting. We have been coming up with alternative words for 'said' and 'walked' and have created some fantastic sentences!

Geography

This half-term, our geography unit is all about our capital city. Before we learn more about London over the coming weeks, we first need to know the difference between a city and a village. This week, we used Google Earth to explore different places in the UK and decided if they were cities or villages. We then used our imaginations to create our own cities using small world toys.

 Continuous Provision

Our playtimes in Year 1 involve working together, using our imaginations and practising new skills. Have a look at some of the other amazing things we have been doing in our classroom.
