All about London

Year 1 are having a great Spring 1 so far. Check out what we've been learning about.

Geography

We went to London! We got out train tickets stamped at St Pancras Station, then hopped on the London Underground all the way to Paddington Station. We then hopped over the River Thames and started exploring our capital city. We saw lots of famous places and landmarks, including Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, The London Eye, Tower Bridge and The Tower of London. We learnt some amazing fun facts about these landmarks - ask us what our favourite fact is!

When we returned to Attenborough class, we played 'London' by building landmarks using blocks and recycled materials, explored London on Google Maps, made our way along the London Underground using a tube map and listened to our class text, 'Daisy and the Trouble with London'.

Computing

We have been learning how to draw and paint using the iPad. We have been using the program, Paintz.
Last week, we tried to recreate a famous painting using different sized rectangles filled with a bold colour.  We have been working hard to remember what each tool means, how to change colour, and how to undo our mistakes!

Art

In Art this week, we learnt how to create different tones using special sketching pencils. We then learnt how to smudge the shading to create a blended tone. Next lesson, we will apply our shading skills to a drawing of a famous London landmark.
