Summer 2: Transport from the Past

Welcome to Summer 2!

Important reminder: Phonics Screening Check
The Phonics Screening Check will be taking place during the week beginning 10th June. Please continue to help your child prepare for this by listening to them read at least 3x a week, and supporting them to work through the resources provided.

Our new topic: Transport from the Past

Our topic focus this half-term is a history unit all about transport over the years. Our lessons will be based around the enquiry question 'How and why has transport changed over time?'.

We will compare transport from the past and present and discuss how and why things have changed. We will look in detail at cars, trains and aeroplanes. We will also learn about the exciting inventions of the Wright Brothers and George Stephenson and explore how they changed travel around the world.

Check out the curriculum map attached to see what else we will be learning this half-term.

Visitors
On Thursday 11th July, Year 1 will be taking part in a 'Transport from the Past' experience led by a group of specialists. During the workshop we will learn about the inventions of The Wright Brothers and George Stephenson, as well as some other inventors. A letter will be sent home early next week with further information on this experience.
