  • WHAT DOES FRESH FOOD MEAN?

    Published 26/06/22, by Kerry Inglis

This week we will be talking about how fruit and vegetables are fresh foods that are good for us. We will be exploring the different ways they are grown and how important they are to stay healthy. We will be trying different fruits and vegetables and picking our favourites as well as growing some vegetables in our garden!

We will be sharing the story 'I will not ever, never eat a tomato'.... Watch the animation below, are there any foods you don't particularly like or haven't ever tried? Maybe you could try some this week... You never know, you might love them just like Lola!

We will be sharing this fairytale gone wrong- 'Give us a smile Cinderella' - which is all about the importance of looking after our teeth...

Can you have a go at making one of these delicious ice lollies at home? Here are some recipe ideas...

The children are wowing us with their reading and writing skills - keep it up little explorers!

Have a go at this game at home... The children love it in school! Obb and Bob are brothers, and they love to eat snacks! Bob likes snacks with real words on them whereas Obb likes the nonsense alien words!

Here are a few speedy sounds lessons you could watch at home with sounds the children are finding particularly tricky. These are special friends, two letters that make one sound.

Here is a video showing how we spell words using our 'Fred Fingers', we use this strategy to help segment words to hear all the sounds and then pinch the sounds to help us match them to letters when writing.

For our F1 children, have a listen to this Fred Talk game, helping children blend sounds together!

This week we are problem-solving using shapes. One of our weekly challenges is 'What smaller shapes can you use to make a bigger shape?'

Check out this number blocks episode to explore what numbers can make rectangle shapes. Are the numbers even or odd?

  • Parent Meetings

    Published 24/06/22, by Peter Cresswell

Please complete the survey at the bottom of this blog!

We hope the parents who were able to attend our meeting last night (23/6/22) found it useful. During the meeting, we shared information to support parents whose children will be starting F2 in September. These meetings are crucial for all parents - if parents cannot regularly support their child's learning, they are likely to fall behind.

Given how important these meetings are, we were disappointed that relatively few parents were able to attend. The survey below is designed to help us find ways to organise meetings that more parents can attend. We would be grateful if all parents could complete the survey.

    Many thanks

  • SPORTS WEEK!

    Published 17/06/22, by Kerry Inglis

This week we will be our sports week. We will be getting involved with lots of fun activities in school including Bollywood dancing! Keep your eyes peeled for a blog post during the week.

Sports week has fallen perfectly into our topic of 'Ready, Steady, Grow'. The big ideas question's that we will be exploring this week are:

How do we keep our bodies fit and healthy?

What food is good for us and keeps us healthy?

We will be finding out all about what foods we need to have a balanced diet and the importance of having a healthy lifestyle. We will be sharing the two stories below and making our own fruit salad just like Oliver!

In maths, we have been finding out about the difference between even and odd numbers... The children seemed to have picked up this tricky concept really quickly! Check out the number blocks exploring odds and evens.

  • JACK AND THE BEANSTALK AND JASPER'S BEANSTALK!

    Published 05/06/22, by Kerry Inglis

Over the next couple of weeks we will be sharing different versions of the classic tale... Jack and the Beanstalk. We will be sequencing and re-calling the story, hot seating and describing the characters, and becoming characters ourselves, acting out the story!

We will be sharing the story 'Jasper's Beanstalk' and learning the makaton signs for the days of the week to help us sequence the story and the different steps Jasper completed.

We will also be exploring the big ideas question 'What does a plant need to grow?' by planting our own beans and observing the best growing conditions. We will be focusing on the vocabulary below-ask your children what a plant needs to grow and see if they can name the simple parts of a plant.

Can you have a go at one or some of the home challenges below? We would love to see what you get up to on Tapestry.
