The Great Fire of London

Welcome back Keller Class, I hope you had a great break. Everyone has come back very settled and fell straight into a normal routine well done!

Our next topic in Year 1 is The Great Fire of London. We will find out what happened in 1666, how it happened and what changed following this disaster.

In this topic we will:

  • Order the key events of the Great Fire in chronological order
  • Investigate why and how the fire began
  • Learn about Samuel Peyps and why he is important
  • Discover what changed after the Great Fire
  • Explore ways we can learn about the past.

Are you ready to find out why London started burning?

In science we are learning how to identify and classify animals into groups. Here is a good song to listen to at home to help remember these groups : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VixROiu8Qg

A couple of general reminders:

  • Spelling quiz will continue on a Friday. The list is attached to our class blog and will be sent home during the first week back.
  • Reading: Please continue to read with your child at least 3 times a week and sign their reading record to show you have done this. We are still working towards our silver reading award.
  • Maths: all children should be staying within the green zone on Doodlemaths. Bespoke Doodlemaths challenges have been set for your child to help plug any gaps – please make sure these are done too!
