Family Link Worker

Ms Jane Garner- Our Family Link Worker

Hello, to all the Parents, Grandparents and Carers of children attending Keyworth Primary and Nursery School.

I would like to introduce myself.
My name is Ms Jane Garner, and I work for the Equal Trust as their Family Link Worker. Many of you will have already seen me around school.

The role of a Family Link Worker is different from day to day, I never seem to have two days the same in such a busy role, so here is some info about the role and how it can support you and your family.

Why?

Children don’t come with instructions, it really would have made life easier if they did, and as parents what works for one of your children doesn’t always work for the others.  Over time we all face a range of challenges that can affect our ability to learn and cope with the many issues that affect us. I am here to offer practical advice, support, and guidance on a wide range of these challenges.

Where?

I am based with the Equals Trust Central Team at Keyworth Primary and Nursery School. To arrange an appointment please contact me on my mobile, email or just drop in and I will do my very best to see you as soon as possible.

How?

There are times when you or your child may need to talk. I will be available to listen and provide a quiet, safe space, to share worries concerns or just ‘be there’ and be a trusted adult. I work across the school from F1 to Year 6 and if needed beyond into year 7 supporting the transition for some children. I am also available to offer children support during break and lunch times if needed where their routine is less structured.

When could you need the support of a Family Link Worker?

You may need support with the following:

  • transition to a new class or school.
  • change in family circumstances.
  • attendance issues.
  • friendship issues with your children.
  • promoting positive behaviour.
  • boosting self-esteem and confidence.
  • bereavement and loss.
  • budgeting or housing issues.
  • Childrens medical appointments
  • Support with forms.

There may be other concerns that you or your children may need support with, sometimes it may be just someone to talk to, other than a partner, teacher or parent.

If needed I can refer to our Elsa Support Assistant who can do a set programme of work with your child in school.

What I can offer:

  • drop-in sessions.
  • coffee mornings.
  • a listening ear.
  • individual support.
  • opportunities to meet other parents in small groups.
  • tools, skills and ideas.
  • Help getting your children into school.
  • signposting.
  • help with appointments.
  • help with finding the information you need.
  • information sessions
