Tremors writing task WB 11.5.20 #7

Welcome to our new class topic 'Tremors'...

Hello Sea Lions,

I know so many of you were excited to learn about earthquakes and volcanoes and our new topic 'tremors' covers both of those!

Here's a little introduction to our new topic:

Tremors. Overwhelming and mighty, Mother Nature’s awesome energies hiss and roar deep within the Earth. Plates collide, spewing lava. Rocks rain down and mud slides in torrents. Towns and cities vanish under ashen clouds. Discover the dangerous and ferocious world of natural disasters and glimpse their savage and deadly effects. Visit the ancient city of historic Pompeii, frozen in time, then create blistering explosions from model volcanoes that fire foamy lava. Discover the properties of rocks shaped by the Earth’s breathtaking power. Watch out. Volcanologists detect formidable rumblings from an extinct volcano in Scotland’s capital. Red alert! What would you do?

Writing Task: I would love you to research a volcanic eruption of your choice. Produce a fact file about the eruption (around a page of A4 or more if you would like to challenge yourself!), you might want to include:

  • a sketch map to show its location
  • a description of the eruption
  • an explanation of why it erupted
  • details about the eruption’s impact on the people and environment.

I would like you to find out anything  about volcanoes using books, the Internet and anything else you can lay your hands on. You can present your work in any way you choose you might want to make a poster or create a leaflet- you can be as creative as you like!

I have also attached the other 'home learning ideas' based on our new topic for you to have a go at over the next few weeks.

Take care and sending lots of positivity,

Miss Fowell x
