This week, Year 3 have been on two incredible journeys one through the pages of fantasy and the other deep into the layers of the Earth!
🧙♀️ Virtual Visit: Step Inside Your Fantasy Adventure
We were thrilled to take part in a special virtual author event hosted by the British Library, where we met Katie and Kevin Tsang, the brilliant minds behind the ‘Dragon Legend’ series.

Together, we explored strange new worlds, encountered mythical creatures, and uncovered the secrets of epic adventure stories. This visit couldn’t have come at a better time, as we’re currently diving into ‘How to Catch a Grass Goblin’ in our literacy unit a text full of mischief, mystery, and magical beings. The children were captivated and inspired, ready to bring their own fantasy writing to life!

🪨Science Rocks! A Visit from the British Geological Survey
This afternoon, we welcomed Marli from the British Geological Survey (BGS) for the final session in our science visitor series—and what a brilliant way to launch our new topic: Rocks! Marli introduced us to the three main types of rocks and shared fascinating facts about their formation and everyday uses. We examined a wide variety of rock samples using handheld lenses, observing their textures and patterns up close. The children then sketched their observations to create their own rock record books. It was a hands-on, curiosity-sparking session that set the stage for an exciting term of scientific discovery.
A huge thank you to Marli for making rocks come alive for us! The BGS also run fantastic family events where you can explore geology through hands-on activities and meet real scientists. You can find out more on their website: British Geological Survey – Events and Activities.
