🌞 Welcome to Summer 2 in Year 1! 🌞
We can’t believe how quickly this year is flying by! We are so excited to welcome the children back for our final half term together. We have lots of engaging learning planned and can’t wait to get started.
🌍 Our Topic: Changes Over Time
This term, our learning will be centred around “Changes Over Time”, which will link across many of our subjects.
🕰️ History
We will be exploring how transport has developed over time by asking questions such as:
- What is transport?
- What transport do we use today?
- How did people travel in the past?
- How have cars changed over time?
- Who were the Wright Brothers and how did they change the way we travel?
- How have planes changed over time?
The children will love discovering how different life was in the past compared to today!
🔬 Science
This half term we will be consolidating our Year 1 knowledge and developing our working scientifically skills.
We will be investigating:
- How do cress seeds change over time? (including planning, observing and concluding our investigation)
- Is it hotter in Keyworth or Africa?
The children will record temperatures in a simple table and present their findings by colouring thermometers for each location.
✏️ Literacy
We will be creating our own wishing/change stories, inspired by Cinderella.
The children will:
- Learn the structure of a wishing story
- Innovate and create their own versions
We cannot wait to read their imaginative ideas!
🔢 Maths
Our maths learning this half term will focus on:
- Fractions
- Position and direction
- Place value within 100
- Money
- Time
🚗 Design & Technology
To link with our topic, the children will be designing and making their own moving vehicles. We’re excited to see their creations in action!
💛 Jigsaw (PSHE)
This term’s focus is “Changing Me”.

Please encourage your child to use Doodle Maths a few times a week.
✅ Just 10 minutes makes a big difference!
🏆 We now have a weekly Doodle Trophy in class, which the children are very excited about!
