Our learning will also be supported by a Victorian day in school (more details to follow)
Science – Everyday Materials and their uses
This half-term we will investigate:

- Which scientists helped to develop new materials?
What is the class text ?
Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens

We will be reading an adapted version of this text suitable for Year 2, rewritten by Gill Tavner.
Our History and Science Knowledge Organisers, this half-term’s curriculum map, and the spelling units we’ll be covering are all available to download at the bottom of this blog.
🏠 Homework Expectations
A quick reminder of our weekly routines:
- Reading: Please encourage your child to read at least three times a week and sign their home-school reading record. You’re very welcome to join us in the Reading Lair!
- DoodleMaths & DoodleSpell: Staying in the Green Zone (around 40 minutes a week) really supports progress. Please support children to complete their assignments, as these link directly to our class learning.
- Silver Reading Challenge: Many children are close—keep going!
- Class Blog: We will continue sharing updates, photos and celebrations of learning, so please check regularly.
🏃♀️ PE
- PE: Every Wednesday and Friday afternoon. Please ensure PE kits are clearly labelled and brought to school each week.
📖 Spelling
📖 We are beginning spelling lessons in school this half term and these will be taught through daily lessons and followed by DoodleSpell assignments set for home.
Practicing little and often makes a big difference!
