Hello everyone and welcome back! We hope you all had a restful break and are excited for a brand-new term of learning, creativity and adventures. We have a wonderfully busy half term ahead of us, packed with exciting topics across all subjects.
Here’s a look at what we’ll be exploring this half term, along with some key reminders and dates for your calendars.
📘 Our Topic: Our Capital City
This term, our learning theme is Our Capital City. We’ll be discovering what makes London such a special place and comparing it to our own village of Keyworth. From landmarks to transport to what it’s like to live there, we’ll be exploring it all!
🔬 Science: Classifying Animals
In Science, the children will be learning how to classify animals by exploring:
- Mammals
- Birds
- Reptiles
- Fish
- Amphibians
We’ll look closely at their features, diets, and what makes each animal belong to a particular group.
🌍 Geography: What Is It Like to Live in London?
Our big geography question this term is:
What is it like to live in London?
We’ll explore:
- The difference between a village and a city
- What makes a city
- How London compares to Keyworth
🎨 Art: London Skylines
In Art, we’ll be creating striking skyline paintings and drawings of London’s famous landmarks. Children will learn how to use watercolours as well as other drawing materials.
We’ll also be studying the incredible work of Stephen Wiltshire, an artist known for drawing cityscapes entirely from memory!
✝️ RE: Jesus’ Stories and Miracles
Our RE topic explores some of Jesus’ most memorable parables, including:
- The Good Samaritan
- The Lost Sheep
- …and more!
We’ll look at the messages behind these stories and what we can learn from them today.
💻 ICT: Modelling Environments
In ICT, the children will learn how a computer can be used to model an environment where choices can be made. They’ll have a go at designing their own representation of a real or fantasy game or story setting.
📚 Literacy: The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch
Our class text this term is The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch, a fun tale involving Mr Grinling and some very cheeky seagulls!
By the end of the unit, children will produce their own story based on the theme of losing something. We can’t wait to share their brilliant writing with you.
