🌼 Spring 2 Learning Update – Year 1 🌼
We are excited to share all the wonderful learning planned for Spring 2 in Roald Dahl Class! It’s a busy and engaging half‑term with lots of hands‑on activities, storytelling, and memorable experiences.
✏️ English – Meeting Story: Little Charlie
Our class text this half term is Little Charlie, a meeting story model. The children will be exploring the structure of meeting tales and using this to help them write their own imaginative meeting story. We will be learning how authors build settings, introduce characters, and create problems that lead to exciting encounters.
🔢 Maths – Building Strong Number Foundations
This half term we will be focusing on:
- Place Value (within 20)
- Place Value (within 50)
- Length and Height
- Mass and Volume
These units help children deepen their understanding of number and measurement through practical activities.
👉 Please continue using Doodle Maths at home.
Short, regular sessions really do make a big difference! Weekly assignments will be set to support what we are learning in class.
🔬 Science – Animals and Their Diets
Continuing our theme of classifying animals, children will be discovering:
- Different types of animals
- What they eat
- The differences between herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores
Our upcoming trip to Manor Farm will give the children an exciting opportunity to explore this topic first-hand.
🕰️ History – The Great Fire of London
We will continue learning about our topic on London, with a focus on the Great Fire of London. Children will find out how the fire started, why it spread so quickly, and the impact it had on the city.
✂️ DT – Tudor Houses
Linked to our history topic, we will be designing and making our own Tudor houses.
📦 Please start saving boxes for us to use!
Cereal boxes, shoe boxes and similar items are perfect.
✝️ RE – The Easter Story
In RE, children will be learning about Easter, why it is celebrated, and the events remembered at this time.
We will also be visiting church for a Mini Time Travel session, giving the children a hands-on experience of the Easter story on Tuesday 24th March.
