Welcome back to the Autumn term and welcome to Year 2! 🎉 đŸ’«Â Here is a blog sharing our expectations, key dates, PE days and what we’ll be learning about this half-term.

📚 What are the school homework expectations?

📖 Reading

Please ensure your child is reading at least 3 times a week at home and that their home-school reading books are signed each week. Phonics books are changed accordingly by their phonics teacher. You’re also welcome to attend Reading Lair to complete this together!

đŸ’»Â DoodleMaths and DoodleSpell

Children should aim to stay in their Green Zone 🟱 by completing approximately 40 minutes of practice each week. Little and often is always best!

🏅 Bronze Reading Challenge

Encourage your child to work towards their Bronze Reading Challenge, which can be found at the back of their home-school book.

📝 Class Blog

🌍 What will my child be learning about this half-term?

⭐ Big Question: How is the UK different to Tanzania?

🌎 Geography

In Geography, we will be learning:

  • Where we are in the world đŸ—ș
  • The continents and oceans across the globe 🌊
  • Where Tanzania is located 📍
  • The human and physical features of Tanzania and Keyworth.
  • How Tanzania is similar to and different from the UK

 🔱 Maths

We begin our Place Value unit, exploring numbers to 100 and discovering how they are built using tens and ones. Children will practise counting, comparing numbers and explaining their thinking. We will also begin using addition and subtraction ➕➖.

📚 Reading

This half-term, we will be enjoying a range of fiction and non-fiction texts linked to our Geography topic, How is the UK different to Tanzania? 🌍Y2 will explore a variety of non-fiction texts to learn more about Tanzania, its people, landscapes, animals and culture. This will help us develop our geographical knowledge whilst building key reading skills.

Alongside this, we will share and enjoy a selection of wonderful books, including:

📖 Little People, Big Dreams: Beatrix Potter
📖 The Troll by Julia Donaldson
📖 Can I Build Another Me? by Shinsuke Yoshitake
📖 The Boy, the Troll and the Chalk by Anne Booth

These texts will help us develop a love of reading, inspire our writing and encourage thoughtful discussions in class. 💭✹

 Writing

In Writing, we will use our Talk for Writing approach to create our own exciting rescue story inspired by Billy the Brave Knight.

đŸŒ± Science- How do plants grow and survive?

We will explore the wonderful world of plants!Â đŸŒ»đŸŒżÂ Children will learn about the different parts of plants, what they need to grow and how seeds develop into healthy plants. We will even plant our own seeds and observe them growing over time!

âœĄïžÂ RE andÂ đŸ§©Â Jigsaw

In RE, we will be exploring Jewish celebrations and learning about their importance and meaning.

In Jigsaw, we will be studying Being Me in My World, learning about belonging, responsibilities and working together as a class communityÂ đŸ€.
