🍂 Autumn 1: That’s a Wrap!
Wow—what a fantastic start to the year it’s been in Dahl Class! Our first half term has flown by, and it’s been packed with learning, laughter, and lots of creativity.
🧪 Science: Exploring Our Senses
We kicked off our science topic by diving into the world of our five senses. The children loved getting hands-on with taste tests, sound experiments, sight challenges, texture exploration, and even sniffing mystery scents! It’s been a sensory adventure from start to finish.
âž• Maths: Practical and Powerful
Year 1 have impressed us with their practical maths skills. We’ve explored place value, addition, and subtraction through games, manipulatives, and problem-solving activities. Their confidence and understanding have grown beautifully!
✍️ Literacy: Storytellers in the Making
In literacy, we’ve been crafting our own cumulative stories—and what a creative bunch we have! The children have shown imagination, structure, and flair in their storytelling. Dahl Class is full of budding authors!
🧸 History: Toys Through Time
Our history lessons took us on a journey through the past as we explored toys from different generations. Comparing our own toys to those our grandparents played with sparked some brilliant conversations. (Check out the photos in our previous blog!)
🎨 Art: Inspired by Irving Penn
We brought our toys into art lessons and created stunning pieces inspired by the photographer Irving Penn. The children’s work was thoughtful, expressive, and absolutely beautiful. We’re so proud of our little artists!
🤝 Building Our Community
Most importantly, we’ve grown as a team. Dahl Class is now a community where every child feels they belong. We’ve celebrated our uniqueness and learned that together, we’re something truly special.
Your children have been an absolute joy to teach this half term. We hope you all enjoy a well-deserved break and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back for Autumn 2!
