Following our recent parents’ evening, many families asked how they can support their child’s reading journey at home particularly when it comes to choosing texts and building confidence with comprehension.
Reading is more than words. It’s about thinking deeply, asking questions, and making connections. To help, I’ve put together a set of discussion questions families can use while reading together. These are grouped by the key comprehension skills we focus on in Year 3: vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval, and summarising.
You’ll also find a list of recommended Year 3 reads below, many of which are available at Keyworth Library. These books offer rich language, engaging plots, and plenty of opportunities for meaningful conversations.
