Over the past two days, Year 1 have spent time with me, Miss Fowell, experiencing days similar to those they will enjoy next year in Year 2. They were incredibly brave and adapted so well to the changes. I am very proud of them all!
They have embraced new experiences with confidence and are ready to spread their wings as they prepare for their exciting journey into Year 2.
In Maths, we explored lots of practical resources to build numbers using tens and ones, practiced our number formation, played Snakes and Ladders to develop our understanding of numbers to 100, and enjoyed a game of bingo to help us recognise numbers quickly. I was particularly impressed with how well the children worked collaboratively in pairs, supported one another, and demonstrated excellent teamwork throughout the activities.
In Literacy, as part of our Treasure Island performance work, we read the story together and collected powerful words and adjectives to describe the pesky Long John Silver. We then used this fantastic vocabulary to create our own wanted posters. I was so impressed with the Year 1 children’s handwriting and the wonderful ideas they contributed.
This afternoon we created Dream Jars for our whole-class display. During this activity, we talked about our dreams for the future. It was lovely to hear the children’s thoughts, hopes and dreams.
We ended the day by sharing the story Basil Dreams Big, a lovely book about believing in yourself, embracing change and having the confidence to follow your dreams. The story prompted some thoughtful discussions about moving into Year 2 and all the exciting opportunities that lie ahead.
