Year 4 Visit to The Deep

Yesterday, Year 4 had an amazing trip to The Deep! We began our adventure with an exciting coach journey before arriving ready to learn all about our oceans and the creatures that live in them.

Our day started with an educational workshop about plastic pollution in the ocean. We learned about ocean currents and how huge masses of waste can become trapped in giant ocean whirlpools. The children discovered how plastic breaks down into tiny pieces called microplastics and how these can travel through the food chain, affecting many different animals. To help us understand this, some children dressed up in funny hats and used cubes to represent pieces of plastic as we acted out how pollution moves through the ocean ecosystem.

After the workshop, we explored the aquarium and saw many incredible marine creatures. We learned about prehistoric sea animals, including the mighty Megalodon, and admired the beautiful coral reef tank filled with colourful fish. The children also enjoyed travelling in the glass lift, where they could look out across different exhibits as they moved through the building.

Following lunch, we visited the penguins and enjoyed watching their playful antics. We then listened to a fascinating talk about the famous sawfish, learning about its unique saw-like snout and how it uses it to find and catch food.

One of the highlights of the day was walking through the underwater tunnel. We spent around twenty minutes sitting quietly and watching sharks, rays and other sea creatures glide gracefully overhead. It was a wonderful opportunity to observe marine life up close and appreciate the beauty of our oceans.

After a fantastic day filled with learning, exploration and unforgettable experiences, it was time to board the coach and head back to school. The children were a credit to Keyworth Primary School throughout the trip and represented the school brilliantly.

We hope Year 4 enjoyed their day as much as the adults did! 🌊🐧🦈πŸ
