Art Week Creativity and Our Tamworth Castle Adventure 🎨🏰
The past week was been full of imagination, hands‑on learning, and plenty of excitement for Year 2. The children embraced everything with enthusiasm, and we’re delighted to share what they’ve been up to.
🎨 Art Week: Exploring Henri Rousseau’s Surprised
Art Week gave us the opportunity to dive into the vibrant, jungle‑themed world of Henri Rousseau. The whole school focused on his famous painting Surprised.
Year 2 looked closely at the colours, shapes, and hidden details that make the artwork so intriguing. Each child was given a different section of the painting to recreate, and they experimented with a range of media. When all the pieces were placed together, the class produced a beautiful large‑scale interpretation of Rousseau’s work.
🏰 Trip to Tamworth Castle: Becoming a Squire for the Day
Our visit to Tamworth Castle was a real highlight. The children were captivated from the moment they stepped inside the castle walls.
During the morning workshop, they learned what it took to become a knight’s squire, practising the skills and responsibilities needed to support a medieval knight. They handled replica objects, asked thoughtful questions, and showed brilliant teamwork.
After our own lunch, the children helped the Lady of the Castle prepare the dining hall for a grand medieval lunch. The children carefully arranged the table, explored the etiquette of the time, and imagined what it might have been like to dine in such a setting.
The children also got the opportunity to explore the castle rooms and learn how people lived in medieval times. As well as, climb the castle tower, to enjoying the views and imagine what life might have been like for the people who once defended the castle.
