Year 6 have had the most fantastic DT day with Junior STEM today! They have been building various structures out of Lego and using iPads connected via Bluetooth to program and control their models.
They began by learning which coding blocks to use for movement and how to add sounds. They then had to make their own symmetrical design for Lego figures to stand on and make it spin.
After this, the children followed instructions to make an alligator whose mouth opened and closed, a drumming monkey and a car. The alligator used gears to allow the mouth to open and close, the monkey used cams to allow the arms to move up and down at different times and the car used pulleys to make the wheels turn. The children were able to customise their designs and also make them move at different speeds. Some of them even had a race with their cars at the end of the day!
