Key information for this half term.
Welcome to Spring 2!
I will be back in the building later on this week and back in the classroom from Thursday. Thank you for your patience in what has been a very difficult time for me personally. Please be assured that I have continued to plan all work for the class even though I haven’t been there in person.
In maths we are continuing work on decimals and percentages then moving onto perimeter and area, followed by statistics. In Talk 4 Writing we are beginning a new text which is a news report called Rocketeer Rescue, whilst in science, we will be learning about forces.
We are continuing with our history topic on the Terrible Tudors where we will be exploring Henry VIII and his wives, the reasons why he fell out with The Pope, and what happened to his wives. See below for information about an exciting enrichment day that we have planned for later in the term!
Please have a look at the curriculum map attached below to find out what we will be learning in all subjects.
A reminder of school Homework expectations for your child
* Read at least 3 times a week at home (or alternatively, come to Reading Lair from 8.30 every morning!)
* Check and sign your child’s home-school diary every week.
* Remain in the green zone on Doodlemaths and Doodlespell (this totals approximately 40 minutes every week). I will be checking this every Tuesday and children who are in the Red Zone will be encouraged to go to Doodle Club until they are in the Green Zone.
* Work on achieving the Silver Reading challenges (these can be found at the back of your child’s home-school diary). If your child hasn’t achieved their Bronze, they can still work on this.
Also, please check the class blog regularly to keep up to date with what we’re doing in school.
PE this term will continue to be on a Monday afternoon and a Wednesday afternoon with Mrs Lees.
Please make sure your child has their kit in school with them on those days. A reminder that PE kit should include trainers, shorts or joggers and a red T-shirt.
Partake History Tudor Experience Day
In order to enrich our learning in History, we have booked an experience day with a company called Partake History. They will spend the whole day in school with us, delivering a Tudor Day for Ride class.
The Tudor Day will take place on Friday 20th March and the children will participate in a range of experiences including:
- Handling artefacts of the time to stimulate group investigation, discussion and art work.
- Investigating and experiencing Tudor spices and finding out about their importance to Tudor life.
- Using a quill pen to become a master calligrapher.
- Witnessing the gradual transformation of a girl and a boy into wealthy Tudor children as they are dressed, layer by layer.
- Performing the dances and etiquette of Tudor court and country.
In order to contribute towards the cost of the visit, the cost to you will be £15. Please pay the £15 on Arbor by Friday 13th March.
Dates for your diary:
- Thursday 5th March: World Book Day – come dressed as a non-fiction character.
- Monday 9th March: Science Week – Ride Class will be undertaking lots of experiments as well as finding out about different scientists.
- Friday 20th March: Partake History Tudor Day
- Monday 23rd March and Thursday 26th March: Parents’ Evenings
