Watching Our Cress Grow! 🌱

This half term, Dahl Class have been learning all about how plants grow, and we became scientists by growing our very own cress!

To begin our investigation, we created a model of the Earth on a paper plate. We covered it with cling film, placed wet cotton wool onto the land, and then carefully sprinkled and gently pressed our cress seeds onto the cotton wool.

Every day, we observed our cress to see if there had been any changes. We kept a daily diary, drawing and labelling pictures of our plants and measuring their growth using a ruler. The children were amazed at how quickly the cress grew and loved seeing the changes day by day.

Once our cress had grown, we discovered that cress is not only a plant but also something we can eat! We had a great discussion about what cress might taste like and whether we thought we would like it.

To put our predictions to the test, we made egg and cress sandwiches. For many of the children, this was the very first time they had ever tried cress. There were lots of curious faces as everyone took their first bite! The children absolutely loved the activity, and many were surprised to discover that they really liked the taste.

This was a wonderful hands-on science activity that helped us understand how plants grow while also giving us the opportunity to try something new. Well done, Dahl Class, for being such enthusiastic scientists! 🌍🌱πŸ₯ͺ✨
