Welcome Back to Autumn 2 – Year 1

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back! We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable half-term break. We’re excited to dive into another fun-filled half term packed with exciting learning opportunities and special events.

🌟 Curriculum Highlights

📚 Literacy
This half term, we’re exploring the much-loved story The Tiger Who Came to Tea by Judith Kerr. We’ll be using this delightful tale to inspire our own meeting stories—after we’ve hosted our very own tea party, of course!

🔬 Science
Our focus is on classifying and sorting everyday materials. We’ll be investigating their properties and applying our knowledge to design and build a shelter. It’s going to be a hands-on and creative topic!

🗺️ Geography
We’re becoming Street Detectives! This means we’ll be exploring our local area of Keyworth in detail. Our big question this term is:
“What is special about where we live?”
We’ll be looking at maps, landmarks, and the features that make our community unique.

📄 You’ll find our Knowledge Organisers for both Science and Geography attached below. These outline the key learning and vocabulary for each subject.

🏠 Homework Expectations

📖 Reading
Please aim to read with your child at least three times per week. Don’t forget to record each read in the back of the Home-School Book—every entry counts towards their Reading Award!

➗ DoodleMaths
Children should aim to stay in the green zone. We also run an optional Doodle Club every morning break time for those who’d like a little extra time to practise. Please support your child at home, and remember—it’s okay to get things wrong! The algorithm will help build their understanding over time.

🏃 PE Days

PE takes place every Tuesday and Friday afternoon. A big well done to everyone who already has their kit in school! Please ensure all items are clearly labelled to avoid any mix-ups.
