World Book Day in Year 1 and 2 – A Celebration of Non‑Fiction!

What an exciting World Book Day we had in Year 1 and 2! This year, our theme was non-fiction, and the children enjoyed a day packed with hands-on learning, creativity, and plenty of fun.

Miss Waugh’s Space Adventure 🚀✨

Miss Waugh’s class blasted off into the theme of space!
The children explored the lives of some truly inspiring astronauts, including:

  • Neil Armstrong – the first person to walk on the moon
  • Valentina Tereshkova – the first woman to travel into space
  • Tim Peake – a British astronaut who spent six months on the International Space Station

The children loved learning about their incredible achievements and imagining what life might be like beyond Earth.

We also got creative! Throughout the day, the children:
🌟 Made their own astronaut helmets
🌟 Wrote a list of essential items they would need for a journey into space
🌟 Created their very own space passports
🌟 Learned step-by-step how to draw a rocket

It was truly out of this world!

Mrs Wiles’ Record-Breaking Challenge 📚🏆

Over in Mrs Wiles’ class, the theme was inspired by the Guinness Book of World Records.
The children loved discovering fun and fascinating records—and even attempted some challenges of their own!

From seeing how many tennis balls they could hold at once to trying out other mini-record attempts, laughter and excitement filled the room. They showed great determination and team spirit as they tried to “smash” some records!

Throughout the day, the children also:
📖 Explored a range of non-fiction books
📘 Created their own books full of facts and illustrations

A Wonderful Day of Learning

Both classes embraced the fun of World Book Day while strengthening their understanding of non-fiction texts. The children were enthusiastic, engaged, and full of curiosity from start to finish.

Thank you for supporting our World Book Day celebrations. The children all looked fantastic in their costumes!
