Maps!
Our World Book Day theme this year was non-fiction and the children that visited the Year 6 classroom on the day took part in an activity involving maps.
We talked about how maps are non-fiction because they help you find your way around, but that they can appear in lots of different types of books. We looked at some examples of maps in fiction books, which can be of real places, but also fictional places:
The children then created their own maps of either real or fictional places and most used rice to help them get a realistic outline of their country. They added features like mountains and forests to their maps and labelled the names of some of the places.
