What a wonderful Poetry Week we have had in Year 2!
We began by exploring The Lost Words by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris, a beautiful book that celebrates words from the natural world. We talked about how poetry can help us notice and describe the wonderful things we see in nature.

Our focus was dandelions. We looked closely at dandelions and gathered lots of fantastic adjectives and verbs to describe their appearance and how they move and change. The children came up with some incredibly imaginative vocabulary!

Next, we used our ideas to create a DANDELION acrostic poem together as a class. The children worked brilliantly to turn their ideas into sentences, and some children even challenged themselves to create their very own acrostic poems independently.

Finally, we became artists and created some beautiful dandelion artwork to accompany our poetry.
We were so impressed with the children’s creativity, enthusiasm and imagination throughout the week. They thought carefully about their word choices, shared some wonderful ideas and should be incredibly proud of the poetry and artwork they produced. Well done, Year 2! ⭐
Here is our final poem:
