    Published 27/07/22

At the end of another busy and eventful year, we want to thank all the families at KPNS for their support over the last 12 months. Your children are wonderful and, once again, have been a pleasure to work with in school. For those children moving on from KPNS we wish them every success – we expect to hear great things about them in the future!

We would also like to thank all of the staff at KPNS for their dedication and commitment to making this such a special school for children and adults alike. We hope parents are aware that staff give up their time every week to run trips, clubs, extra teaching sessions and other activities: these are often the things that some children benefit from more than anything else. Staff at KPNS really do go above and beyond!

As we look forward to September, the staff are excited about the new class structure we have in place and the plans we have for enhancing all parts of the children’s curriculum. We are also very much looking forward to welcoming some new faces to the staff team who bring along with them a wealth of experience and passion.

    Staffing structure for next year:

CLICK HERE for a reminder of our staffing team for next year. You will notice that Mrs Joels has been replaced by Mrs Harris in Year 5. We wish Mrs Joels every success in her next teaching role. Mrs Harris, an extremely experienced upper KS2 teacher, will be completing the remainder of Miss Rayn’s maternity cover. She comes with a wealth of experience and is very much looking forward to working with our new Year 5 class. The children have already met Mrs Harris, taking part in an enjoyable reading lesson last week.

    Uniform for September:

It’s that time of year when everyone is rushing out to buy new school uniform. Please double check our uniform list under the ‘parents and carers’ section on the website CLICK HERE.

Please remembers our uniform includes black shoes, not trainers (not even black ones). We do not want children to have the pressure of wearing the correct brands or feeling inferior because they do not have the latest trainers. Shoes should be plain, black and unbranded.

We have limited room in our cloakrooms so children in Y1-3 should bring their PE kits in a SMALL bag and their books in a Keyworth Primary School book bag (which can be purchased from the school office). Children in Y4-6 can bring a SMALL rucksack containing their books and PE kit. Also, a reminder that we do not allow pencil cases into school as we provide everything the children need for their lessons.

    School Attendance

Although most KPNS families have attendance that supports their child's progress in school (above 90%), we have recently had to issue several fines where attendance has been very low and children meet the criteria for persistent absence (below 90%). The government have recently published new guidance asking schools to be more rigorous in their approach to ensuring pupils attend school regularly. As such, please do not book any term time holidays or keep your child off school without a very good reason. Where attendance is low without a good reason, schools are expected to intervene quickly, including by issuing fines.

    End of Year Awards:

The following awards were given out during our Leavers’ Assembly today:

    Excellence in Sport: Bobby Pope

Joan Gulliver Reading Award: Bella Anne Burton and Elli Buckley

Hartley Cup for outstanding progress during their time at KPNS: Abby Shelton and Millie Lavelle

Well done to all the winners, we are extremely proud of you!

    Blaze’s Reading Lair:

Finding it hard to find quality reading time with your child after school? Perhaps they are too tired or have other activities they take part in on an evening?

Next year, from September, come and read with your child before school in Blaze's Reading Lair! School will be open from 8:30am every morning

To support parents with finding that quiet time to read with your child, we have set up Blaze's Reading Lair. It will take place in the school dining room every day from 8:30- 8:50 (when the children will go to their classrooms). The back door will be open from 8:30 for parents/ grandparents and children to come and read together in the dining room. The children can read their own books or choose from an exciting range of books available.

When children attend Blaze's Reading Lair, they will receive a special stamp in their home/school book. Collect 50 stamps and get one of Blaze's special prizes.

All children must be accompanied by an adult.  However, if your child is in Y4, Y5 or Y6 and walks to school independently, they can sign a permission slip and read in a group with Mrs King.

When parents find the time to read regularly with their child, we know the child is likely to make much better progress and achieve age related expectations.

    Many thanks

Along with all the staff who work hard to nurture and grow your children academically and in the pastoral sense, we have a whole host of amazing people who work behind the scenes. We would like to express our thanks to our wonderful Friends of KPNS who organise fundraising events  to help us raise money for our playground project and offer exciting experiences such as the pantomime (we have already booked for December 2022!) Also, many thanks to all the volunteers who help in school offering reading, 1:1 tuition and gardening- your support is appreciated more than we can express! Our final thanks go to our Governors who work tirelessly to support the school’s ongoing development.
