Dragon's Roar- December

Here is our December edition of Dragon's Roar.

WELCOME:

Well, what a fantastic first term we have had full of interesting and exciting topics, trips to remember, a host of after school activities and clubs…we’ve all been very busy! Your children have been an absolute credit to you throughout the term; challenging themselves, showing perseverance and persistence and growing in confidence every day! From all the staff and children at KPNS, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and we can’t wait to see what 2019 brings!

Parent Survey:

The governors have now finished analysing the results from the parent survey conducted in November. Please click here to read them.

‘Twas the Night Before Christmas…

We are very excited for our Christmas performances next week, most of the children have their costumes in school and have been busy rehearsing together. The performance times and dates are below, and tickets can be purchased on the school money website. If you have any questions, please call the school office.

Tuesday 18th at 9:30am

Wednesday 19th at 2pm

Wednesday 19th at 7pm (Please can all children arrive in school and go to their classrooms for 6:30pm?)

Final Family Assembly of 2018:

We will be holding our ‘Achievers of the Term’ Assembly on Friday the 21st at 2:45. Everyone is welcome to join us, and we will be ending the assembly with some good, old fashioned carol singing. We hope you can join us.

Christmas Tree Oh Christmas Tree….

…How lovely are your branches. Yes, they certainly are. For the first year ever we have a real Christmas tree standing proudly in our school hall. It is absolutely huge and smells beautiful! The staff had fun ‘lassoing’ the lights to the top of the tree and the children have all made their own special decorations to make it look spectacular. A heartfelt thank you to the team at Bank Farm on Melton Road in Stanton- on-the-Wolds for donating us our tree. If you haven’t got yours up yet then we can’t recommend them enough!

Support with Spelling:

The children have done a great job learning their spellings (with you and in school) this term. Many of our children tell us about the different ways they learn their spellings at home and how you make learning them fun! If your child finds learning spelling challenging or you would like some fresh ideas to try, click here for some fun spelling activities you could do.

Currently the children are tested on their spellings on a Friday and they mark in their home/school books which ones they have got right and which ones they still need to learn.  In January across the whole of Key Stage 2 we will be introducing the children to a new spelling challenge! They will come in on a Monday morning and try and ‘UP LEVEL’ their previous Friday’s score by learning a couple of the ones they got wrong over the weekend. Imagine the impact that would have if they could learn just one more spelling a week- 52 extra words a year!! We look forward to seeing who can ‘UP LEVEL’ their spellings in 2019!

KeYworth Primary Quiz Team:

It's looking increasingly likely KPNS will struggle to get a team together for the Village Quiz starting in January (https://www.facebook.com/keyworth.quiz) and so we are looking for at least 2 people who will join the team.

It may look quite serious but it’s a bit of fun at the end of the day. There’s a lot of luck depending on the questions because the subjects are so varied. Even with Keyworth Primary having the same team members for the last 3 years, we've managed to get all the way to the final one year and then knocked out in the first round another year. You win some, you lose some…..it really is the luck of the draw!

So, if you’re pondering whether to join I’ll leave you with a quote from the great philosopher Derek Trotter…….

”He who dares Rodney,….he who dares!”

Contact Alex Demetriou (asd1987@btinternet.com) before the end of term if you're interested or want to know more. Otherwise it will be a shame for the school not to be represented in the community.

Note from the Office

Please make sure that all payments are up to date on school money. Thank you.

What a MARVELLOS Panto!

OH YES IT WAS! A huge thank you to our AMAZING Friends of KPNS for sending the whole school to see Beauty and the Beast at Loughborough Town Hall. It was a truly magical experience for all and a trip the children (and staff) will remember.

SAFEGUARDING

Don't forget to follow our safeguarding blog to get tips and ideas on how to keep your family safe

Attendance:

This academic year we have seen a rise in our families taking unauthorised holidays during term time. Having less than ‘good’ attendance has a serious impact on your child’s education and means that they are less likely to be successful. We urge our families not to book term time holidays. If your child's attendance is already a concern, it is highly likely we will be issuing fines to those who do.

Massive Maths:

This week we have had a marvellous Massive Maths Morning where we did lots of exciting and challenging Christmas maths across the whole school. There was a real buzz and the children enjoyed working together across the classes. Mrs Betts has also caused competitive chaos by setting a new Time Tables Rockstar competition; the children are frantically collecting those coins (whilst learning their times tables) to become the winning class! The winner class will be revealed on Monday!

Thank you:

As our first term draws to a close, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our lovely volunteers who come in and read, work or run clubs with our children on a weekly basis. The work you do is invaluable so thank you!
